Wholesale prices accelerate sharply in November
Washington AP reports wholesale prices rose six tenths of one percent in November, the biggest jump since July, driven by vegetables dairy cars furniture lumber leather and textiles. The rise complicates Nixon’s goal to curb inflation to about 3 percent by year end and may bolster calls to extend wage and price controls beyond April.

Court nixes union power in wage fines ruling
The Supreme Court, in a 6-1 decision, ruled unions cannot fine workers who quit during a strike and later return to work. Justice Douglas said a member who resigns from a union forfeits its power over him. Blackmun dissented in a case involving 31 ex-members who were fined after returning to work at International Paper Box Machine Co. in New Hampshire. The National Labor Relations Board had found the fines illegal under Taft Hartley.

County EDA aid sloshed in cancellations impact five workers
Odom said five Hempstead County employees paid by EDA funds on road work face possible loss if the program ends. Affected counties include Conway, Crittenden, Mississippi, Dallas, Desha, Drew, Greene, Lafayette, Little River, Lonoke, Phillips, Pike, Poinsett, St. Francis, Scott, Cross, Carroll, Hot Spring and Logan. City manager Gerald Keith noted a $750,000 EDA project will proceed without future funds and that canceling county aid won’t severely hit the city’s water, street, sewer work and five wells for industry.
