Jones still on stand in tax evasion trial
State Sen. Guy H. Jones of Conway continued testimony in his own defense in U S District Court. He faced charges of evading 5209 in federal income taxes for 1965 and 1966 and filing false returns. He said he believed his 1965 and 1966 returns were correct and that he overreported income in 1965 by 52040? He said IRS inquiry began in 1968 and lasted four years, during which he cooperated and was not told he owed additional tax. A separate Hope police report described a freak accident when a trailer broke loose from a hitch, hitting a 1964 station wagon with no injuries.
