LITTLE ROCK AP Rate agencies in line for part of the Allotment B funds of the Revenue Stabilization Act may expand their budgets by a combined total of $8.775 million. The agencies were told Monday that they could spend one half of the Allotment B funds under the act.
Hope Star reports November general revenue rose 14.9 percent from 1972, but state Finance and Administration Director Richard R. Heath warns funding for Allotment B remains uncertain. November net general revenue was $34,036,096 after refunds, vs projections of $31,501,261, with overall first five months ahead of FAO forecasts but short of the needs for A, B, and constitutional agencies. Heath doubts remaining seven months will meet the shortfall, and notes potential $4.5 million overrun in income tax refunds.
Partly cloudy and colder conditions across Arkansas tonight and Wednesday. Lows tonight near the 30s, highs Wednesday reaching mid 40s to low 50s. Experiment station report shows 24 hour period ending 7 a.m. Tuesday with a high of 65 and a low of 45 and rainfall of 3.45 inches.
Hempstead County ASCS chairman Ralph Montgomery says area farmers may apply to distributors for additional diesel under a 60 day revision in the emergency fuels program. Nicholas H. Smith of USDA notes the update was approved November 19, 1973 and that fuel suppliers must give farmers priority.
The Agriculture Department plans weekly reports on the farm fuel shortage, with ASCS leading surveys showing gasoline and diesel supplies tight to critical in many states. Reports note fuel allocations causing delays, advisory notices slow to filter, and calls from Sen. Talmadge for agricultural energy priority to avert possible 1974 food rationing.
Ellis Robb 84 of Cypress died after robbers struck his head with a sharp object during a daylight robbery at Robb's Grocery Store on Arkansas 9. The bandits stole the cash register containing about 1,000 to 1,100 dollars. Police blocked roads in Conway, Fawkner and Van Buren counties seeking suspects in a dark car. No witness. The case remains active as investigators collect clues and search for the weapon. Robb had previously survived a store fire about a year earlier.
Emil Bartling of rural Toledo, 79, says he gave away his car and will not drive after paying a fine for driving with out a license. He was ticketed recently and told a judge he had driven 40 years with a license bought 40 years ago for $1.production and sale of a medal honoring the late J Edgar Hoover wins House approval. The measure to honor the former FBI director moves to the Senate.
Lt Gov Bob Riley in Fort Smith says gasoline rationing is unnecessary and that the government can solve the energy crisis with proper organization and direction. He tells senior citizens energy should be plenty and Congress must act, noting farmers could get high priority if rationing occurs.
