Senate Moves Toward Control Bill Approval
The Senate advanced toward likely passage of a bill giving President Nixon power to control wages and prices through April 30, 1973 with retroactive pay for raises blocked by the freeze. Key amendments remain, including a Proxmire proposal to exempt small businesses and unions after next year and a Cranston bid to shield media from wage and price controls. The administration had objections to retroactive pay but now appears to accept it.
