In Service Math Education Class Opens in Hope

University of Arkansas at Hope will conduct a September in service class for secondary school math teachers. Dr. William R. Orton announced the third year of the program with instructor Robert Simmons of Ashdown. Classes begin Tuesday September 10 at 6 p.m. in Math or Sec Fed 4923.

State aid boosts monthly child grants by five dollars

LITTLE ROCK AP Checks mailed this month to families with dependent children include a five dollar raise per child. Social Services Commissioner James B Cartwright said the staff calculated the budget could bear the increase. The rise adds about 354000 to monthly payments while the state covers 89000, with the federal government paying 75 percent of costs. Grants to 70878 children totaled 3214000 this month.

Fifteen Texarkana Fire Department members picketed City Hall to push for union recognition changes in live-in radius, a $50 monthly across the board raise, and cost of living raises every six months.
