Skunk sightings and pigeons plague city cooling tower

Fire Claims 3rd Victim of Ft. Smith Fire

In Fort Smith Arkansas an August explosion and apartment fire killed Wanda Burke three, the third victim. Her father John Barkley 24 and brother Jeffrey 20 months died last week at Brook Army Burn Center. Barkley was stationed at Ft. Sill Oklahoma but assigned temporarily to Ft. Chaffee near Fort Smith. A fire inspector said gas accumulation near a gas cone section caused the blaze. Mrs Barkley was not injured.

In Belfast Protestant leaders condemn government concessions to Catholics amid calls for James Chichester Clarke to resign. Some Catholic leaders accept, but hard-liners demand dismissal and unity with the Republic. Soviets Begin Large Titanium Exports to United States

AP dispatch reports the Soviet Union is selling large amounts of sponge titanium to the United States, a move officials and experts say could undercut U.S. industry. Titanium, valued for high strength to weight, is increasingly used in both military and civilian aircraft, with several shipments already delivered to Seattle and more expected next month. Prices from Soviet sources are about a dollar per pound, undercutting U.S. and Japanese prices.

510 Pints of Blood Needed by Red Cross in Hempstead County

Taxing Powers Shunned by Convention

The Arkansas Constitutional Convention recessed before voting on an amendment limiting county taxing powers. A 9 a.m. session was to reconvene with former Vice President Hubert H.
