Faubus Urges Quiet at Southern Governors Conference
Arkansas Governor Orval Faubus urged Southern governors to avoid controversial issues that could split the group at the first session in White Sulphur Springs. He warned against turning the meeting into a forum for debate on civil rights and federal policies, noting Wallace seeks closure on key resolutions and could disrupt the conference. Faubus said the body is not deliberative and cannot bind members, and he planned to announce his resolutions committee appointment.
