Goncalves to address rally in Almada amid unrest

Premier Vasco Goncalves seeks a public show of support as opposition to his Communist aligned policies grows. In Alcobaca a rally by Alvaro Cunhal drew 1,500 supporters who faced a violent anti Communist mob injuring over twenty as troops intervened. COPCON offered no reason for delayed troop response while Goncalves called for unity to preserve the 16 month revolution.

Probability of rain decreasing Tuesday in Arkansas

The Associated Press reports the chance of rain in Arkansas will drop tonight and Tuesday due to high pressure over the southeast. Showers and thundershowers were noted across the state with heavier totals possible in Pine Bluff, plus high temperatures near 80s/90s and overnight lows around 70.

Meyers Bakery leader cites fuel waste problem

Jim Hart, manager, spoke at the Hope Rotary Club lunch on August 14 at the Sheraton Inn about Meyers Bakery shifting to brown n serve rolls English muffins and hot bread. The plant now yields 1250 dozen muffins per hour with 25 tractor trailers delivering to 24 states amid high wheat prices and energy waste from ICC rules. Foxe invited to perform at Arkansas nightclub

Ashdown man killed by lightning during fishing

Ashdown, Ark. Ronald Peak, 30, was killed instantly when struck by lightning while fishing in a boat on Yarborough Lake near Lake Millwood. Companion Burton Mansfield, also of Ashdown, was knocked unconscious and remained in fair condition at Little River Memorial Hospital.

Obituary for Arch Pearson 90 at First United Methodist

Funeral services were held for Arch Pearson 90 at 10 am Monday at the First United Methodist Church with Rev Charles Walthall officiating. Burial followed in DeAnn Cemetery. Pearson died Saturday morning in a Prescott hospital. The 22nd amendment, ratifying presidential term limits, was adopted in 1951.
