Forecast showers likely across Arkansas from front near plains
The National Weather Service forecasts increased shower activity in Arkansas as a frontal system moves toward the state. Thundershowers were reported mainly in southern Arkansas with Texarkana receiving 0.72 inches and El Dorado 0.13 inches. Temperatures ranged from the upper 80s to mid 90s, with lows in the 60s to 70s.

Seat belt interlocks set to start cars only when belts fastened
Washington AP reports that starting today 1974 models must have seat belt interlocks or optional air bags. A mini computer under the front seat activates at sitting and the ignition starts only with belts buckled. Most makers plan interlocks. GM offers air bags on certain models.

Local banks including Citizens National Bank and First National Bank of Hope contribute 4127.50 to the State and National 4 H Foundations. Barksdale men jump to safety after plane crash
Two Air Force pilots Capt. James H. Lea 29 of Bogalusa La and 2nd Lt. Joseph G. Lincourt 23 of Sanford Maine parachuted to safety Tuesday night when their P38 crashed in a wooded area about 20 miles south of Shreveport. They had left Barksdale AFB en route to Columbus Miss and were picked up by De Soto Parish sheriff's deputies and reported in good condition.

Princess Anne to move into Sandhurst home after wedding
Five bedroom house at Britain's Royal Military Academy Sandhurst will house Princess Anne and Capt. Mark Phillips after their November 14 wedding. The Ministry of Defense renovates the property. Phillips will teach at Sandhurst next year. he is currently stationed with his regiment in West Germany.

Telephone company names new Hope manager
Mrs Norma Jean Pierce has been named manager for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company at Hope. She replaces Jack Bayles who transfers to Arkadelphia as manager. Pierce has served as temporary manager since early this year due to Bayles sickness leave and will oversee the business office and commercial operations in Hope and surrounding towns.

Bayles will assume a newly organized manager position serving Arkadelphia, Gordon, Nashville, Ashdown and Mena. All except Mena were formerly served from Camden. Mena has been managed from the Fort Smith office. Mrs. Pierce began her telephone company career as a directory compilation clerk at Little Rock in 1952 and served as a service representative at Pine Bluff in 1959. She was appointed school consultant at Little Rock in 1967. She moved to El Dorado as business office supervisor in 1971 and was acting manager at Hope in March 1973. She is from Jacksonville and has three children. Bayles started with the company as an installer in Hot Springs in 1941 and rose to manager for Hope in 1968.
