Weather outlook Arkansas rain through Tuesday

The Associated Press reports the National Weather Service forecasts scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms across Arkansas through Tuesday. Rain chances are 40 percent today, then 30 percent tonight and Tuesday as precipitation becomes less numerous.

Rainfall reports across Arkansas and neighboring states are noted with traces at Pine Bluff El Dorado Texarkana and Memphis. A weak upper level low in eastern New Mexico and western Texas sparked showers and thunderstorms overnight. Arkansas may see more storms today and tonight with partly cloudy skies and little temperature change through Tuesday. Cooler air could move in Wednesday followed by a chance of showers Wednesday through Friday with near normal temperatures. Highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. overnight lows in the upper 60s to low 70s.

Hope public schools first day set for August 19

The Hope district schedules the first day of school for all students on Monday August 19 with a start time of 8 30 a m and end time 11 30 a m for the first week. Bus routes numbers and drivers are listed on the schedule with designated schools they serve. The notice includes staff bylines and a 1929 1972 memoriam line.

Regional Fire School Slated Here This August

A regional fire school will be held here August 12 through 22 for area firemen. The program starts at 7 30 p.m. Monday with chief instructor Andy Fortner of the Arkansas Fire Academy. Attendees can earn 10 hours credit toward Inspections for completing all four phases. The course title is Inspection Practices Pre Planning and Fire Prevention.

Revival Services Begin at Garrett Chapel Baptist Church Tonight

The Rev. G. L. Hughes invites the public to a revival starting at 7:30 this Monday and running through Friday the 16th with evangelist Rev. Pete Lambert from Camden. Glenda Buckley, Hope High School 1974 honoree, wins a $500 Truman Arnold Business Scholarship at Texarkana College. she plans accounting. Patmos Schools will open Monday August 19 at 8:30 a.m. Parents of first graders should send birth certificates and health records.

Mobile Medical Unit Visits Prescott for Free Screenings

The M.E.R.C.S. Mobile Medical Unit offers free screening for residents 60 and over. It will be at the Prescott high school gym today 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Tuesday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 887-3115 for transportation.

Death takes Hope native Mrs. Iva Baxter Hightower Kingcaid

Mrs. Iva Baxter Hightower Kingcaid a native of Hope and Texarkana resident died Sunday in a Temple Texas hospital after a long illness at age 76. Survived by husband R Q Kingcaid of Texarkana son Dr N C Hightower of Temple daughter Mrs Margaret brother P D Baxter Texarkana sister Mrs Elsie Morgan Texarkana four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Hope Public Schools Set To Open August 19 at 8 30 A M

Hope schools announce the new academic year starts Monday August 19 at 8 30 A M with all grades reporting to specific locations for orientation. Kindergarten through 12th grade students attend staggered sessions and new registrants can enroll that day. Teachers begin a two day workshop on August 15 at 9 30 A M in the high school cafeteria.
