Chance Hurls Perfect 5 Inning Game

Minnesota pitcher Dean Chance flirted with a perfect five innings, facing 15 straight batters before rain halted the game in the fifth. His abbreviated no hitter helped Minnesota to a win over Boston, moving them to second in the AL behind Chicago. Chance, two-time shutout star, protected a 2-0 lead as the Twins scored on a Gesare Tovar walk and Harman Killebrew single. Lonborg took the loss. In the NL, St Louis widened its lead with a 3-2 win over Cincinnati as Philadelphia, LA, Atlanta, and San Francisco also won. The game is unlikely to be listed as a nine-inning perfect game. Chance later said he was glad for the rain and only wants to win, not chase a perfect game.
