Arkansas growers in Clay Craighead Cross Greene Jackson Lawrence Mississippi Monroe Phillips Poinsett Randolph and St Francis counties are deemed eligible for emergency Farmers Home Administration aid by the Secretary of Agriculture per a telegram from Rep. E C Gathings. The action covers growers in 12 counties as of Thursday night.
Seattle AP reports Stephen Taylor of Chicago perished on Mt McKinley after altitude sickness blocked ascent by six climbers. Four others are missing, likely buried under fresh snow after a two day storm. Bodies of two unidentified climbers found near Taylor on a ridge. three will remain on the mountain.
Henry B. Clay 48 and his wife Helen Ewing Clay 44 died when their Beechcraft Bonanza exploded and fell near Nevada Missouri en route to a Canadian fishing vacation. Clay was executive VP of International Broadcasting Co and general manager of KWKH Shreveport. funeral plans were under Osborn and Ferry Funeral Homes.
Benny Robert Eaves of Alicia Lawrence County was captured on Interstate 40 about one mile northwest of North Little Rock on burglary and grand larceny charges. Lawrence County sheriff informed Pulaski County about a possible sighting. he eluded arrest twice before authorities tracked him with a blood hound.
New York AP report notes bankers broadly backing President Johnson's 10 percent surcharge plan while some businessmen warn the tax hike could blunt a softening economy. Public opinion ranges from reluctant acceptance to outright opposition with calls to cut nondefense spending. A 35 person national survey shows only three favor the hike. engineers and manufacturers voice caution but acknowledge necessity.
The Arkansas Education Association and the Arkansas Negro Teachers Association moved toward a merger after both boards approved a draft charter and bylaws. Approval by shared memberships is now required. A joint committee has pursued the merger since fall 1963 to advance education professionals in the state.

The 31-foot PBRs form a muddy water navy in the Mekong delta and Bassac. Crews of five carry multiple weapons and operate 24 hour patrols to deter Viet Cong river traffic. They use radar and a starlight telescope to spot enemy activity at night and surge into action with full firepower.
A Civil War era tale follows a 15 year old boy who defies family to enlist, is wounded, and is aided by a blue uniformed stranger who proves to be a friend and guardian. The wounded youth survives and later learns the story behind the stranger’s tears and the keepsakes he entrusted to his mother.

Assistant Prison Superintendent Thomas Murton says Arkansas prisons are stuck in outdated methods and would score minus 20 on a 0 to 100 scale. A Navy Skyhawk was shot down and the pilot missing, raising U.S. warplane losses to 636. Ground fighting persisted with nine days of Mekong delta operations yielding 469 enemy dead. Mortar attacks hit Lai Khe base camp for the second time in 10 days.
Milwaukee eased its curfew and Providence plans day by day selective curfew decisions after a night of relative calm nationwide. Isolated rock throwing and a shooting occurred. Milwaukee officials reported 4 deaths and 706 arrests since rioting began, while 1,300 of 4,800 National Guardsmen were withdrawn.
A National Labor Relations Board hearing is scheduled in Memphis next Thursday on a petition for a decertification election at Warwick Electronics in Forrest City Arkansas. Charlene Heath of Wynne, Local 1408 of the IUEW filed the petition seeking a vote by the 1400 employees on whether to end or change their union affiliation.
