The Associated Press reports clear skies and warm temperatures across Arkansas as high pressure maintains stable conditions for a few days. A frontal system in the south is expected to influence the weather, but no major storms are anticipated in the immediate period.

MEMPHIS AP A contract to build and lease a new post office in London Pope County has been awarded to Lamar Smith and Johnny Paxton of Springhill Louisiana. The pair submitted the lowest bid among five and will erect a 1 067 square foot interior space. Completion is planned for December on the north side of U S 65 about 1 000 feet from the current office.
Washington AP reports prolonged dry weather in Iowa has hurt corn prospects and the crop nears a critical stage. The Agriculture Department notes most damage in late planted corn and on lighter soils, but by August 3 Iowa corn was mostly fair. Iowa leads in corn production and new 1975 crop estimates are due August 15.
The Arkansas Highway Commission will open bids at 10 a.m. Aug. 27 on 25 highway projects with an estimated total cost of 4.7 million dollars. Projects include traffic signals at Hope, paving near Siloam Springs, bridge work near Fayetteville, and multiple surfacing and signal installations across numerous counties. Also noted is a shipwreck near Scotland on Sept. 29, 1853, with 48 lives lost.
Director Griffith directs the Continental Singers and Orchestra in a Saturday seven thirty concert at Fair Park Coliseum. Now in his second year with the group, he previously assisted the 1973 Caribbean tour and earned a Baylor University degree in music education. The ensemble will perform hymn and anthem arrangements, spirituals, and praise songs before a 75 day coast to coast U.S. tour and a three week European leg through Switzerland, Austria, southern France, Germany, and Holland.
Washington AP Ford signs a seven year extension of the Voting Rights Act, preserving federal pre-clearance and multilingual ballots in areas with large minority populations across 24 states. The measure blocks literacy tests nationwide and enables federal registration and election examiners in covered districts for a decade.
In Cambridge, Massachusetts, observers can now see the Kobayashi Berger Milan comet with the naked eye just below the Big Dipper handle. Discovered by Toru Kobayashi, Douglas Berger, and Dennis Milan, the body is 45 million miles from Earth and approaching the sun, likely visible for about two weeks, best with binoculars or a telescope though city haze may hinder view.

Charles Haberer of Ozark was elected president of Arkansas Electric Cooperatives Inc. on Tuesday. He succeeds Joe Callaway of Wilmot. Other officers elected for one year terms were W. H. Ross of Palestine, vice president, Fred Carlisle of Stuttgart, secretary, and Vol T. Rutherford of Cane Hill, treasurer.
