The Hope Star starts a Radiothon on KXAR to be held Saturday August 8 at 1 30 p m with 25 volunteers supporting calls and drive pickups. Local friends led by Earl Downs and Bill Stewart organize the fundraiser inviting listeners to donate.
Lenore Romney wins the Republican Senate nomination in Michigan with 92 percent of precincts reporting. She leads Robert Huber 267 543 to 248 923 in a tight primary race, setting up a fall confrontation with incumbent Democratic Senator Philip Hart. Two 16 year old Kennedy relatives, Robert F. Kennedy Jr and R Sargent Shriver II, were summoned to a private juvenile court session in Barnstable. James H Jones superintendent of schools announced that all children turning six by October 1 1970 must present a birth certificate and a health immunization folder before entering the 1970 71 school year. The folder lists smallpox and polio diphtheria tetanus red measles and pertussis vaccines, recorded by the county health nurse or family physician. The health folder can be obtained at the County Health Office.
