Co operative Stock Marketing Favored In Arkansas
Farmers in nine Arkansas counties sold 40000 dollars worth of livestock through co operative shipping associations last year. Prairie Grove Livestock Shipping Association moved eighteen carloads of cattle sheep and sows to East St Louis. Marketing through shipping associations reduces costs and allows livestock to reach national markets. Average charges per car varied by product with hogs and cattle each receiving specific per hundred weight rates. Some counties reported a $100 per car gain from out of state markets. Associations are run by a board of directors and managed by a supervisor with county agents aiding policy and demonstrations.
