Arkansas Gravels Roads Decline Amid Tax and Cooperation Debate
In Ouachita and surrounding counties Arkansas officials clash over road maintenance funding. County Judges Watt Jordan and J Geed push state fuel and gasoline tax tweaks to fund local dirt roads, while District Engineer L B Plemmons declines. El Dorado and Union County weigh fuel costs to operate state roads. Critics accuse politicians of using maintenance money and a 1 cent gas tax hike for political gain, warning the current split leaves counties with upkeep while state roads lack funds.
