Accidents in State Claim Eight Lives
Eight lives were lost on Arkansas roads over the weekend. Gilda Pebble Miller, 33, of Oklahoma City, was killed when her car struck a bridge on Arkansas 270 near Pencil Bluff while avoiding a turning truck. Robert Oswalt, 29, of Dardanelle died when his truck left control near Dardanelle. Delwin Phillips, 32, of Altheimer died from injuries in a one car crash near Pine Bluff. A father and his two sons, Carl 52, James 13, William 21 Tarkington, of Cherry Valley, drowned when their truck stalled in rising water near Wynne. gas fumes were involved after their truck sank in six feet of water.

Bullet Fired From Pocket Cylinder Kills Man in Pool Hall
A ballistic test determined the fatal bullet came from a loaded cylinder in Charles Smiths pocket and not from a gun. Detective Lt. John Terry said Smith, 36, was killed when the cylinder dis charged as he bent to pick up a pool cue, the bullet striking his heart. The incident occurred outside an east side pool hall and Smiths body was found on the sidewalk after he was dragged from the scene.

Repair shop burglary leaves 30 cents missing
The Safe Lock and Key repair shop, run by Oliver Mills beside the Stay building, was entered Sunday night. Thieves shattered a rear window to gain entry, opened the back door, and absconded with only 30 cents, according to city police investigating the incident.
