The University of Arkansas Children’s Theater directed by Dr. Patricia Romanov will present The Dragon April 25 26 and two puppet plays on May 3 in the Arts Center Theater on campus Maria Johnson of Nashville will star as Olga in The Dragon also appearing in the cast. Former Blevins resident Virgil W Miller has earned a diploma from LaSalle Extension University Chicago and lives in Little Rock with his wife Billie and 7 year old twins. Miller is a UPS carrier and a Blevins High School graduate. Kathie Anne Arnett of Emmet has received a $400 academic scholarship to Southern State College for the 1975 76 year. She will graduate Hope High School in 1975 and is active in multiple clubs. Army National Guard Lt Col Melvin C Thrash of Hope completed Part I of the staff officer course at Fort Leavenworth on the Command and General Staff College list honors. Springfield applies to 20 states per Rand McNally atlas.
Glendon Martin president of the Hope Jaycees spoke at the Sheraton Inn luncheon, detailing a newly organized club of men aged 18 to 35. Texarkana Jaycees sponsored the effort after Christmas with 27 charter members, new additions, and several prospects. The group, formed under four months, has rebuilt the rifle range, planted flowers downtown, and organized basketball. The auxiliary Jaycettes held a rummage sale aiding tornado relief in Warren, while supporting a Miss Dogpatch entrant in state competition. Jane Whitehead of the Theatre Players discussed local theatrical involvement and season tickets. A welcome was extended to Bob Hull as the newest Rotary member, with a board meeting following.
Services were held for Earl FE Smith 66 at Herndon Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Snell Cemetery Emmet. Survivors include wife Viola six sons Louise Dowings a daughter and several relatives. Elbert Lewallen a Foreman native and Spring Hill resident died in Little Rock VA Hospital. Survived by widow Ilse Evelyn one daughter Nannie Lewallen a brother Everett and a grandson. burial in Delight Cemetery.
The Supreme Court refused to hear cases on school desegregation in Louisville and Jefferson County, Kentucky, and Indiana suburbs. It left in place a Cincinnati circuit court ruling directing Kentucky districts to eliminate all vestiges of state-enforced discrimination and allowed interdistrict remedies if needed.
