The Associated Press notes showers possible in Arkansas tonight as a large storm system develops from the northwest. The National Weather Service says showers and thunderstorms will ramp up Thursday with partly cloudy skies and warm temperatures continuing. A high pressure area over Kentucky kept Arkansas skies clear Tuesday.
A strong southerly flow brings warmer air to Arkansas today with increasing moisture. A cold front will trigger showers and move through Friday, followed by fair skies and cooler weekend temperatures. Highs mostly 70s to near 80, lows tonight in the 40s to 50s across major towns. Local readings include Little Rock 47 and Memphis 30.
The Blevins Home Economics department hosts a spring style show at 7 p.m. on April 18 in the high school gym. Admission is 25 cents. The event features garments that are individually contracted. CALF PRICING MEET AT NFO BARN. The National Farmers Organization meets at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, with calf pricing at 8 p.m. All ranchers and farmers are urged to attend. Hempstead County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary meets Thursday April 17 at 7 p.m. in the Hospital study room. Dr. Robert Patton of Lafayette County Unit American Cancer Society speaks. open to all who want to wipe out cancer in their lifetime. Mrs. Gracie Alford is public education chairman.
At the Hope Lions luncheon Ron Courtney of the American Cancer Society showed a film on lung cancer and quitting smoking. He cited 80 percent of lung cancers tied to smoking and noted gender differences in quitting ease. The event also announced summer plays by the Hope Theatre Players and charter-night plans for the Blevins-McCaskill Lions Club with several invitations to nearby gatherings.
Michael Flanders, 53, English music and comedy star who performed from a wheelchair due to polio, died Monday night. He was famed for the 12 year partnership with Donald Swann in At the Drop of a Hat and also wrote songs, books and opera libretti.
The Hope Theatre Players adopted their constitution and by-laws at a April 14 meeting at the Trade Winds. They retained Officers Mrs. Carter Russell president John King vice president Bill Etter secretary Ron Andress treasurer Jane Whitehead public relations director and Mrs. Roy Taylor parliamentarian. Three additional board members will be elected at the next meeting while season ticket plans for four productions are finalized. Season tickets remain on sale at 6.50 for adults 4.50 for students contact any member or Radio Station KXAR at 777-3601.
Funeral services for V V Breedlove 63 were held at Latimer Funeral Chapel with burial in Wrights Cemetery Sevier County. He was a retired farmer and Church of Christ member. survived by three brothers. Mrs Henerietta Louise Stuart Johnson 91 had services at Latimer and burial at St Paul Cemetery. five grandchildren and five great grandchildren among survivors. Joseph Floyd Mangum 79 had services at Herndon Chapel with burial in Water Creek Cemetery Guernsey. died in local hospital.
