Kuwait Signs Mirage F1 Pact With France

Kuwait and France reach an agreement for Mirage F1 fighters equipped with air to ground and air to air missiles. Defence Minister Sheik Saad Abdulla al Salem did not disclose numbers or price. Reports indicate 36 Mirages to be delivered by mid 1974 and no transfer restrictions were imposed. Kuwait may pursue Phantom and Jaguar tanker deals with the United States and Britain.

Walkathon honors Melba Bain with multiple prizes

Melba Bain received a trophy for the largest March of Dimes Walkathon collection at $370.30. She also earned prizes as the oldest walker at 40, with the most sponsors at 119, and for the highest money per mile at $16.21. Total walker contributions reach $1,950. Unreturned funds should be mailed or brought to Red River Vocational Technical School. Coats and sweaters left behind should be picked up at the school.

Obituary notices for Fisk Ferguson Ellis and Honea

Funeral services were held for Mrs Leona Fisk 47 of Lockesburg with burial in MacHorse Cemetery. Jessie Ferguson 86 former Nashville resident died in Little Rock and was buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Mattie Connell Ellis 81 died in Hempstead Memorial Hospital with services in Prescott. Mrs Marvin Honea died suddenly at her Camden home leaving survivors.

Highway Safety Talk at Hope Lions Club

Major Goodwin of the Arkansas State Police spoke on highway safety at the Hope Lions Club, noting how current speed regulations reduced accidents compared with pre fuel-crisis figures. He warned that fuel recovery could tempt higher speeds and more crashes, despite fewer patrolmen than in the mid-1960s.

Pine Bluff Firm Wins Red River Stabilization Contract

Pine Bluff Sand and Gravel Co. awarded a $782,130 contract by the U S Army Corps of Engineers New Orleans District to stabilize Red River at Douglas Island Bend near Shreveport. Work includes 1250 feet of stone fill revetment on the river’s west bank and an eroded Cross Bayou bank at Cadillac St. paving with stone.

Council assures consumers on food prices after decontrol

Washington AP The Cost of Living Council seeks to reassure shoppers that retail and wholesale food decontrol will not trigger sharp overall price rises this year. The program ends April 30, with some stores likely raising prices but no broad inflation expected. Government officials note farm price declines do not promise retail savings, and profits for food retailers are only recovering after declines from 1969 to 1972. Only a few major industries remain under controls as decontrol progresses.

Texas oil allowance stays at 100 percent for May

The Texas Railroad Commission set May oil allowable at 100 percent for the 26th straight month after buyers reduced nominations to 3,860,765 barrels daily. Exxon cut 117,000 barrels while plans included a Persian Gulf shipment. state and US inventories rose, with Texas stocks at 90 million barrels as of March 29.
