Cotton and Wheat Plans Announced by Freeman
Washington AP Secretary of Agriculture Orville Freeman outlined new cotton and wheat stabilization programs keeping 1964 planting allotments. The measures, signed by President Johnson, total about 1 billion in payments to farmers and subsidies to mills. Four cotton options span basic, domestic, export acreage, or no allotments with penalties. The domestic subsidy aims to let U.S. mills compete with cheaper foreign cotton at world prices.
