The forecast says precipitation should end in Arkansas tonight with mostly cloudy skies and a few periods of rain or thunder showers today. Decreasing cloudiness and cooler temperatures are expected tonight, with a few showers lingering in the eastern half of the state and mostly fair skies on Tuesday.
Cloudiness will decrease tonight as a frontal system moves away from the state. A new front in the northwest promises precipitation later this week with possible showers over northern Arkansas Wednesday and statewide Thursday and Friday. Temperatures hold in the 60s to 70s. Night lows in the 40s across cities. rainfall totals varied from .25 to 1.16 inches in several towns. Charles Stuart and Five Blind Boys of Mississippi will perform at Macedonia Baptist Church on April 20. Ouachita Baptist University seniors Barbra Bradley and Patricia Huckabee, both of Hope, are in the student teaching phase at Hope High School the teacher prep program.
Obituary notices report David Lee Rosenbaum of Lancaster Texas who died at 35 in Parkland Hospital Dallas April 10 with service Sunday at Herndon Funeral Home Chapel and burial in Memory Gardens. Also noted are Beulah Hicks 76 of Washington funeral and Joseph Floyd Mangum 79 of Hope with services Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in Herndon Chapel and burial at Watercreek Cemetery Guernsey. Herman H Scott 66 founder of H H Scott Inc died Sunday in Lincoln Mass, inventor of a TV beam sweeping circuit and pioneer of stereo equipment. Survivors listed include family members and locations in Texas Arkansas Oklahoma and Massachusetts.
Jack Young of the University of Arkansas Forestry Department spoke at the Hope Rotary Club about small and young woodlands as valuable resources. He noted forest areas in Arkansas comprise 55 percent of land, urged responsible management, and cited ongoing experiments at the university station on planting spacing, cutting, and insect control. Additional topics included Christmas tree research, rainfall studies in trees, and community projects.
The Supreme Court agreed to review a Philadelphia circuit ruling permitting Dr. Benjamin Spock and three political associates to campaign at an arms base during the 1972 presidential campaign. Government lawyers argued the decision blurred military civilian distinctions and harmed political neutrality.
Star Sports Editor Billy Burton attended the 1975 Astros Press Preview in Houston over the weekend. A 75 member contingent from Texas Louisiana and Arkansas covered the event marking the tenth anniversary of the Astrodome. Burton attended two Dodgers games Saturday night and Sunday.
Sylvia Bowen and David Wayne Jones win divisions in the Optimist International Oratorical Contest sponsored by the Hope Optimist Club. Both advance to zone competition with district hopes for $500 scholarships. Second place honors go to Margaret Forrest and Sue Anderson in the girls division and David Ward Jones in the boys division. The club has run the event for three years as nearly $40,000 in annual Optimist scholarships are awarded nationally.
A new activist group, Rural America Inc, opens a four day conference in Washington drawing about 1500 participants. The event promises workshops on rural health care farm policy and development as Sen. James Abourezk and DC councilman John Wilson urge greater federal aid and criticise agribusiness bias in government programs.
