Hope Jaycees Plan House-To-House Raffle Tonight

The Hope Jaycees meet at the Chamber of Commerce then tour homes to sell raffle tickets for a prize of a 1160 Remington gun and six gun cabinet to benefit the Hope youth project, drawing April 19. The Ouachita Baptist University Madrigals will give a concert at 8 p.m. April 10 on the Arkadelphia campus, featuring Ellen Howell of Hope and Doug Anderson of Texarkana. Scouts from Troop 91, led by Scoutmaster Olen Overturf, are asked to help at the Lions Club broom and mop sale at the Armory on Monday April 7 at 5 p.m.

Obituary notices for Mrs. Joan Godwin and Mrs. Myrtle Milford

Mrs. Joan Godwin 63 of 504 S Walker St died early Saturday in a local hospital. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church. Survivors include husband John W Godwin daughter Mary Virginia Watterson three grandchildren four sisters and one brother. Services Monday 2 p.m. at Herndon Funeral Home Chapel with Rev W S Bishop officiating burial in Memory Gardens. Mrs Myrtle Milford of 2003 Laurel St Texarkana died in a Texarkana hospital late Friday. Funeral Sunday 2 p.m. at Herndon Funeral Home Chapel burial Rose Hill Cemetery. She was a Presbyterian. Survivors include nephews Albert Graves and Ben Graves Jr.

Supreme Court sends Cooper case back to state court

The Supreme Court ordered the Cooper case returned to Jernigan with directions to dissolve the payment ban, dismiss the suit, and take related actions. Also noted is the obituary of Dr. Harold M. Osborn, a 1920s University of Illinois track star and 1924 Olympic gold medallist, who died Saturday. The Religious Observance Day committee is chaired by Rev. W. G. Wynne with Rev. Halph Madison and Rev. Ben Agena as members.

Club hears talk on tax

John Whitten, local accountant, spoke at the Hope Rotary Club meeting in the Sheraton Inn on Thursday, April 3, on Taxes. He explained the tax bill, deductions for political contributions, an emergency tax cut, credits for new homes, and tax reform using a hypothetical case. He urged study of IRA implications and careful review of changing tax rules before filing. President Gerald Keith led the session and welcomed student guests Joella Benton and Brenda Williams, plus visitors Paul Henley and Bob Hull, newly relocated from Baton Rouge.
