The Associated Press reports a low pressure system and cold front moved from the west, bringing cooler air and precipitation through Friday. Thunderstorms that hit the state Wednesday intensified as the system moved eastward, developing rapidly into strong weather activity.
A fierce low pressure system produced storms with a counterclockwise wind pattern that scattered killer tornadoes across the South Midwest and parts of Canada. Arkansas felt strong gusts as the low moved eastward while a westward high pressure ridge built bringing cooler, partly cloudy conditions and a significant temperature drop. Weather data show a 24 hour high of 84 and low of 45 with cooler readings expected today.
Nixon agreed to pay any assessed taxes after the congressional panel found major adverse issues. White House officials cited his December pledge to accept the panel's conclusions and criticized the release of staff findings before review. A confidential source said the IRS inquiry and staff report left Nixon financially wiped out, citing two main questions: a deduction for prepresidential papers valued at 976 dollars and capital gains on selling part of his San Clemente property.

Also promoted: Smile Week to support Muscular Dystrophy, a 1.50 smile candle sale. Easter services led by local ministers are scheduled in Prescott and Calvary Baptist Church with a ribbon cutting and open house for the new sanctuary.
