Weather Outlook Arkansas and Louisiana Late This Week

Increasing clouds and warmer conditions across Arkansas this afternoon with showers and thundershowers continuing tonight through Thursday. Temperatures reach mid and upper 60s to low 70s, with lows mostly in 40s to 50s north and 50s to near 60s elsewhere. Louisiana remains mostly cloudy and cool with occasional light rain tonight and Thursday, highs around 60s to 70s and lows in 50s.

Original Arkansas Post Is Sought

Army Engineers using a drilling rig began a two week expedition Tuesday to locate the original Arkansas Post settlement founded by French explorer Henri de Ponti. Three six inch holes will be sunk to depths of 9 to 110 feet by a four man crew. The site, once the first white settlement west of the Mississippi, is believed washed away by the Arkansas River’s current. A national memorial is planned nearby with National Parks Service involvement.
