Space Try Is Set for Next Friday Space Try Is Set for Next Friday

CAPE CANAVERAL, PLA AP After months of delays the first test flight of the Centaur space rocket is set for Friday on a 15 minute ballistic trajectory. The two stage rocket will reach about 400 miles altitude before descending into the Atlantic 1 178 miles from the launch point. No payload will be carried. The test aims to study liquid hydrogen behavior in space and data will guide future Centaur firings. A television camera will observe hydrogen behavior every two seconds. More than 100 channels of information will be transmitted during flight. The Centaur, with thrust of 30 060 pounds on the second stage and a modified Atlas first stage, could place satellites into orbit and reach lunar or interplanetary weights, filling a gap between Agena B and Saturn class boosters.
