AP reports B L Gracy 18 of Augusta Georgia survived a heart penetration after a pistol bullet struck during a guard changeover at a missile site near Mount Vernon Arkansas. He received first aid and open heart surgery at the Veterans Administration Hospital. The incident at Mount Vernon is under investigation.
Arkansas Senate approved a resolution urging President Nixon to grant executive clemency to Lt William L Calley Jr. The House adopted a similar measure. Calley, sentenced to life in Ga for the My Lai civilians killings. Hendrix urged protection for soldiers ordered to follow higher command.
