Michigan bill would require K-12 coaching SafeSport training
A proposed Michigan House bill would require public and charter K-12 coaches and athletic staff to complete SafeSport sexual misconduct training within seven days of hire or 30 days for existing employees, with termination for noncompliance. The measure, HB 6452, was introduced by Rep. Tim Greimel and sent to the Law and Justice committee.

Michigan utilities produced nearly 1.5 million tons of coal ash in 2016

Man resentenced rights upheld in juvenile murder case
Grand Rapids Michigan man Chad Maleski was initially sentenced to life as a juvenile for kidnapping carjacking robbery and murder in 2000. A Kent County judge ruled he is eligible for resentencing under a Supreme Court standard that bans mandatory life without parole for juvenile offenders. He awaits December resentencing with potential 25 to 60 years.
