Tulip Time in Holland to Plant 455000 Bulbs for 2019
Holland parks department advances toward Tulip Time with 455000 bulbs to be planted for the festival's 90th year May 4 to 12. About halfway through the September and November planting, staff target 10000 to 15000 tulips daily, aided by a strong volunteer base. Tulips travel 4000 miles from the Netherlands by ship then by truck from Hartford to Holland. Tulip lanes are dug 15 to 22 days in September, then dirt is added and bulbs are planted by hand. The 90th anniversary favors orange blossoms, and color schemes vary yearly to keep the display fresh.
