Bruce Ming 88 Holland teacher, Olympian, dies
Bruce Jarvis Ming 88 of Holland died peacefully October 16 2018. Born November 20 1929 in Holland to Margaret Kraai Ming and Oscar Jarvis Ming he was the youngest of three siblings and survived by sister Marlyn Kane. A Holland High graduate he married Karen Rose Sam celebrating 62 years. taught in West Ottawa schools and coached wrestling after earning a master's from Western Michigan University. He enjoyed singing hunting fishing running drawing and nature and carried the Senior Olympic torch in Holland. He is survived by wife Karen daughters Jo Ellen Ming Hering and Abbie Jo Wilcox with spouses and grandchildren Jacob Jarvis Elenbaas Adelyn Rose Wilcox Annelle Marie Wilcox and great granddaughter Rowan Angela Elenbaas. Visitation October 20 and a Celebration of Life October 21 at Maplewood Reformed Church. Memorials to Maplewood Church Mission Fund or U of M Oncology research.

In Kandahar City an elite Afghan guard opened fire minutes after a high level security meeting, killing Kandahar police chief Abdul Raziq and intelligence chief Abdul Mohmin and injuring Kandahar governor Zalmay Wesa. NATO reports say a U.S. service member, a contractor and a civilian were wounded. Taliban claimed Miller was the target though officials say Raziq faced the gunman.
