Courts shift 17 year olds from adult to juvenile cases
The Raise the Age law, signed in 2019 with full effect Oct 1 2021, ends prosecuting 17 year olds as adults in Ottawa and Allegan counties. Juvenile courts emphasize rehabilitation with personalized plans, family involvement, and therapies to address root causes and reduce future offenses.
