Economy hotel owner Economy filed suit Sept 21 in Ottawa County 20th Circuit Court seeking immediate suspension lift pending a Holland City Council hearing Oct 3. The council will hear staff, the hotel owner, and the public on license revocation after three violation notices in six months. City attorney Ron Vanderveen criticizes the filing as lacking merit, noting prior due process and opportunities to comply.
Over a year after a 2017 Weaver House deck collapse in Pine Bend Park in Port Sheldon Township, a second lawsuit targets Ottawa County. The June 15 2017 event at 15400 Polk St injured several, with 14+ hurt and two hospitalized. The deck, 15 feet high, used wrong lumber per an engineering review and was rebuilt in October 2017. Winter-Troutwine Associates built the deck portion. The county faced three claims after six months. two by ankle injury victims and one from a workers’ comp insurer. The first suit was filed June 13 by Patricia and James MacDonald, alleging injuries to Patricia’s left foot ankle and neck.

Authorities urged avoiding floodwaters and warned vehicle dangers from moving water.
