Allegan County rescinds K-6 mask mandate
The Allegan County Health Department rescinds its K-6 mask order effective 5 p.m. Sept. 30 due to funding risk. Local districts may set their own mandates. Saugatuck Public Schools had required masks, while Hamilton and Fennville moved to optional. Ottawa County’s pre K-6 mandate stays in effect. Vandalism charges dropped over Confederate statue dispute
Allendale Township officials decided not to pursue charges related to damage to a Civil War memorial statue in Garden of Honor. Township Supervisor Adam Elenhaas cited a goal to avoid divisiveness and avoid adding to a contentious national debate sparked by 2020 protests. Earlier this year charges were issued against individuals for local ordinance violations connected to the statue.
