Man fakes trading license fleeces investors in Grand Rapids

Ottawa County man Joshua Rupp pleaded guilty to securities fraud after falsely claiming to be a licensed broker and securities trader. He duped at least 19 clients out of about 2.7 million dollars, promising insured, risk free returns. Rupp used a builder’s license to simulate a securities credential, though he never registered with Michigan authorities or major regulators. The plea was entered on November 12 in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan, as a parallel SEC civil case was put on hold.
