Region Benfits From Appeals Court Ruling On Union Case
The Michigan Court of Appeals ruled Feb 22 in favor of Ionia County Intermediate School District reversing a grievance filed by the Ionia County Intermediate Education Association. The dispute concerned a 2015 written reprimand of Renee Eis, a special education teacher at Heartlands Institute of Technology Center housed in Ionia High School, who was later fired. The court affirmed that the district acted appropriately over a locker room safety issue and found the union breached its duty to bargain in good faith by demanding arbitration. The union may appeal to the Michigan Supreme Court.
