Holland City Council softened on several proposed changes in the Unified Development Ordinance that would add density in two zone districts. At a study meeting they indicated support for removing provisions that angered residents of the center-city Traditional Neighborhood Residential zone as the UDO awaits adoption.

Zeeland neighbors help displaced family after fire
Zeeland resident Karyn Lozano and her boyfriend acted quickly when a house fire broke out just before 10 30 p m on a Wednesday. Lozano opened kennel doors and evacuated her dogs before guiding her two sons and boyfriend to safety.

Ottawa County chief takes top Kent County job
Ottawa County Administrator Al Vanderberg, in charge of about 1,200 county staff since 2003, was chosen June 24 by the Kent County Board of Commissioners to become county administrator. He will replace Wayman Britt, retiring July 24 after 17 years with the county. Vanderberg will begin in late summer after contract talks and a July 22 board review of the agreement.
