Regional group faces possible state contract termination over funding crisis
Lakeshore Regional Entity, a prepaid inpatient health plan serving seven West Michigan counties, risks losing its contract with the state for Medicaid disbursement to 30,000 beneficiaries. MDHHS cites large deficits and structural instability. If canceled, a private managed care firm would take over, though the current LRE contract runs to Sept. 30.

At On The Border in Holland the second annual Public Safety Awareness Night drew families and first responders from Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office OCSD Marine Patrol AMR Zeeland Fire Rescue Grand Valley State University Police and more. Rain did not deter attendees as children met firefighters police and mounted division horses and learned about public safety roles. Organizers say the event aims to improve community relations and trust through positive interactions with public safety workers. The idea originated with On The Border manager Rachel Harwood who sought partnerships with local nonprofits to counter negative perceptions of law enforcement.
