Friction over BPW franchise with Laketown Township
Laketown Township officials pressed for a payment in lieu of taxes in a new 30 year BPW franchise, while arguing that a transfer to Consumers Energy would not raise bills by 20 percent. The dispute, tied to a 1982 agreement that expired last year, hinges on tax and service terms as the BPW plans a nearby natural gas plant and district heating. The township deadline is July 31 with a board meeting set for July 29.
