Local unemployment rate ticks up in Ottawa County
Ottawa County's unemployment rose 0.1 percentage point from 3.1 percent in October to 3.2 percent in November, still below Michigan's 6.3 percent statewide rate and tied with Clinton County for the lowest county rate. Allegan and Kent counties posted higher figures while payrolls varied across sectors, with retail gains and leisure declines noted. More than 17,000 Michigan residents filed unemployment claims for the week ending Dec. 19, down from the prior week.
