Giant Arthropleura fossil found in England towers near a car length
English researchers report the discovery of Arthropleura, a giant millipede from 326 million years ago, nearly 9 feet long and weighing about 110 pounds. Found on a Northumberland beach in January 2018, the fossil is the oldest and largest known millipede, suggesting a tropical Carboniferous England near the equator. The specimen will be shown at Cambridge University’s Sedgwick Museum in 2022.
