Wonder Woman 1984 review finds spark then overlong sections
Ed Symkus reviews Wonder Woman 1984 noting an energetic opening on Themyscira and strong performances by Gadot Wiig and Pine, but overall the film overstays its welcome with an excessive two and a half hour runtime. The story centers on wishes granted by a magical gem and features Maxwell Lord and Barbara as key players, with a revived Steve Trevor complicating Diana’s arc. The piece praises some acting turns while criticizing pacing, sentimentality, and overuse of effects. The movie debuts in theaters and on HBO Max December 25.
