Michigan bans deer baiting to slow chronic wasting disease spread
Michigan officials approve hunting rules including an immediate ban on deer baiting in the CWD Management Zone and a statewide ban on natural urine lures not approved by the Archery Trade Association. The Lower Peninsula ban starts January 31, 2019, with a disability hunter exception. Chronic wasting disease has been found in 60 free ranging deer since 2015. A separate ceremony dedicates a fountain in memory of former state Superintendent Brian Whiston, on Capitol Plaza in Lansing.
