Zeeland approves pre Labor Day start for two year contract
Zeeland Public Schools and Zeeland Education Association reach a two year contract placing the district on a pre Labor Day start for the 2019 20 school year under the Ottawa Area Intermedi ate School District waiver. The change joins Holland Public West Ottawa and Hamilton as local pre Labor Day adopters. Local charters and private schools have long started before Labor Day, while tourism advocates caution against sacrificing economic impact. A separate Ottawa County note highlights only two full time animal control officers county wide and no city based officer in Holland, urging more staffing to handle animal emergencies and growing population. The Holland parking deck is set to open Sept 28 the same day as the Civic Center, expected to ease extensive parking issues and rising traffic. The primary election narrows candidates across Allegan and Ottawa counties ahead of the November vote with calls to contact representatives and participate.
