Mr Grady Thompson and his wife visited Odessa yesterday. The couple were seen touring local sights and dining at a downtown cafe, with no incidents reported.
Bob Anderson, formerly of Hobbs and now in Carlsbad, opens a modern auto service at Bill Clark's Car Storage and Service Station in New Hobbs. Johnny Lassator of Roswell joins as assistant manager. Homer Shipp and Mack McCloud also join as mechanics under Mr Anderson.
A summer school directed by Travis B Shaw will run for six weeks starting June 8 to help high school students who failed a course or have an irregular schedule. Enrollment begins Monday May 27 from 9 to 12, with courses in geometry English history and biology. Band rehearsals occur Monday and Wednesday nights. Mrs T H Stewart leaves for a coastal vacation. A fine arts recital by Mrs Nancy Rogers Miss Louise Kaichler and Mrs O L Henley is set for New Hobbs auditorium Monday at 7 30 PM.
J. T. Collie resigned from the Hobbs town board of trustees effective immediately. He moves to Breckenridge Texas to pursue business interests, thanking voters and fellow trustees Parks Sabelman and Caylor for their support and noting efforts to improve the community under difficult conditions.
Services for Bronson M. Cutting take place this afternoon in New York City, the home of Senator Cutting's mother. State offices in New Mexico close during funeral hours as memorials are held across many towns in New Mexico and in New York.
John L. Smith of Hobbs and Homer Stanton alias York were captured after a Carlsbad gas station robbery. Police recovered items from the Pigott Wackers Watson Rex Billiard Hall robberies. Smith received 15 years and Stanton 99 years in prison.
Mrs Arch Clevenger leads the Sunday School class for Mother's Day with a 11 o'clock morning worship. Kathryn Hynd sings Mother McCree with violin by Virginia Harris. Mrs F K Suddath performs That Wonderful Mother of Mine. Sermon titled Mother of Men. No evening service due to high school baccalaureate at the gym.
The Hobbs-Phillips baseball team travels to Wink Sunday to face Wink Town in the first meeting of the season. Many fans plan to accompany the local club as the game starts at 3 30 p m Texas time at the Wink diamond.
In Lovington, three local figures Mayor L W Gay Attorney W H Patten and John L Emerson are named in an information for contempt filed by District Attorney George L Reese Jr. The charge alleges a conspiracy to defeat an injunction, improper election activity, and interference with justice surrounding the March 26 city commission election. The defendants are ordered to appear before Judge McGhee.
Local grocer Bill Wolford completes remodeling and enlargement of his store. Walls and shelving repainted with 22 feet added of shelf and floor space. Vegetable department expanded.
Capitan oil operations report Turner No 2 townsite well acidizing underway. E J Cherry improves after a month of recovery. Jno Dashko spent weekend in El Paso. Harold Quick and wife relocate to Houston after seven years in Hobbs. Turner No 1 previously brought in with an estimated 19000 barrels. Noble Bros prepare Turner No 8 near the New Mexico Electric plant on South Turner. Amerada No F-1 State drill stem test results pending. Oil shows at several levels below 3806 in north offset to Amerada Monument discovery. Texas Company rigs up on No 1 State, 3 14 miles north of Monument.
