County Scholastic Track Meet Scheduled Here April 12 13

Lea County directors plan a major scholastic track meet at Hobbs Recreation Park on April 12 and 13 with twelve teams already entering. Entries must reach manager T. C. Gallagher of Tatum by April 7. Athletics remain competitive while forensics are de-emphasized as entertainment.

Notice to sign Corn Hog and Cotton Contracts in 1935

Time to sign contracts before April 1. Committees will be in Lovington on March 23 and in Tatum on March 25 to complete Corn Hog and Cotton contracts. Bring production data from 1928 to 1934 for new signers and last year’s signers should provide records of hogs, cotton yields, and related figures. Rural Rehabilitation is operating in the county with projects planned. cattle testing is progressing.

Blackie Smalley Dies in Arkansas Jail

Blackie Smalley aged 45 died Saturday at the Mena jail after being brought there from Carlsbad to answer robbery charges. Sheriff W. E. Jones said he became ill soon after arrival on Wednesday. Smalley, wife, and a sister of Adam Richetti survive. He was arrested in Carlsbad by Officer Kerley and sought habeas corpus. Judge McGhee denied the plea. Graveside details tie him to a 1933 Cole Arkansas robbery of $2,000 from Mrs Sallie Graves.

Townsite well to be acidized Saturday

Test will be made today of the Noble Bros. Townsite well, and the well will probably be acidized tomorrow, operators said last night. The Shell well drilling in Highland Park addition was shut down last night. The 9 1-2 inch casing has been cemented on top of the salt.

Mrs McGonNigle Dies Near Lovington in Family Plot Funeral

Mrs McGonnigle aged years died at her home near Lovington Missouri. The funeral took place in Hobbs. She was mother of Gonnigie, a famous radio performer killed in Arizona years ago. Body laid in family plot at the county seat cemetery.
