The Lea Hotel will reopen on March 20 under A. C. Er, who recently purchased the property. The 34 room hotel is being remodeled with new beds new mattresses and new rugs for the floors.
Extradition of Blackie Smalley sought in Mena Arkansas for robbery with firearms was granted Monday in Carlsbad after a hearing before Judge McGhee. Smalley was arrested here weeks ago by Officers Kerley and Archibald and is accused of robbing Mrs. Sallie Graves of 2000 dollars at her home near Coke Arkansas.
Miss Lela Biggs has recovered from an operation. Mrs. J. W. Williamson and Miss Irene Spindle visit from Dal las and Dallas respectively. Raymond Erp of Dallas and A. C. Chesher conduct business in Lubbock and Littlefield. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Ivy plan to move to Cooper. Mrs. F. K. Suddath and Mrs. W. D. Stafford visit Layington.
The Shell Petroleum Company conducted a test at Alston and Dalmont streets reaching 218 feet last night with operations starting on Wednesday.
The Noble Brothers town site test at the corner of Taylor and Dalmont streets was drilling at 4,032 feet last night with operators expecting to strike pay at any time.

Mayor Gay filed a proclamation calling a special Hobbs election for Tuesday March 26 to decide adoption of the commission form of government. A petition with over 200 signatures triggered the vote. 25 percent of last city election voters would have required 169 signatures. If approved, government would be led by a mayor and two commissioners. All town laws stay in force. Proclamation appears on page 5.
Sam Schmearman, proprietor, announces plans to erect a new brick rear store for the Golden Arrow. The building will be strictly modern and fireproof with construction starting soon. The contract for the job will be let in the immediate future.
Construction of a modern service station in New Hobbs began this week by Bill Clark. The $20,000 structure will offer one stop automotive service with storage facilities and will be on the corner northeast of the Harden Hotel.
