Hobbs begins a $10,000 FERA recreation park project on the old high school athletic field site. The 680 by 380 foot complex includes a 440 yard track, 220 yard straight, swimming pool, wading pool, three tennis courts and a baseball diamond, surrounded by a six foot fence. Local labor exceeds half the cost with materials donated by area oil firms. about 40 men will gain employment. Completion dates are flexible with initial focus on laying out the field and facilities already approved by city authorities.
Floyd Emony Easley, 35, died Sunday February 24 at Lubbock Sanitarium after a week long illness from lobar pneumonia. Born March 16, 1899 in Sallisaw Oklahoma, he worked for Bill Clark nearly two years and was well known locally. Survived by wife, three sisters Mrs B H McPeters Mrs C W Stout and Miss Ludy Easley, and two brothers Mack and Woodrow. Funeral held Tuesday at 10:30 at Baptist church with Rev W M Beauchamp. interment Thorpe family plot South Cemetery. Arrangements by Goodwin's Funeral Home.
Jackson-Horne remains undefeated and claims the city league title and its silver cup, donated by Jobe Rollins Chevrolet Company, now on display at Midwest Drug. Second place will be decided next week, with Phillips, Stanley A-Star in close pursuit. Phillips won last weekend’s Andrews tournament and placed three on the all-tourney team.
T. R. Weaver was rushed to Carlsbad late Wednesday night for an emergency operation and, at the last reports, was resting well.

Shirley Temple, the juvenile star of Little Miss Marker, won a special merit award yesterday from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Claudette Colbert and Clark Gable were honored for best acting on screen in 1934 for It Happened One Night.
Mrs Lyle Gholson and her son are visiting relatives in Borger while staying at a local mall area with other family members.
Clyde Corey a 50 year old local truck driver died early Wednesday morning at General Hospital from pneumonia. He left no known relatives and recently worked for Bob R White. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon and burial followed at North Cemetery. Pierce Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Hobbs Water and Gas Co full speed installing water meters at homes and businesses. About 40 meters were set yesterday. Manager W C Hilliard says no water charges this month, only the required deposit. He urges customers to check for leaks and repair before meter installation to avoid high bills.
Mr and Mrs Bryant Harris were business visitors in Lubbock yesterday. They met local colleagues, discussed potential collaborations, and planned follow up meetings in the coming weeks.
