Dr W A Sabelman announced that among 174 local residents interviewed about a municipal utility and sewerage plan, 164 favored the project while 10 expressed dissatisfaction. The sewage option proved least popular among those surveyed.
The Hobbs Municipal election produced county trustee results across districts. Voters chose J V Harr and C G Ste ed v for trustees in District No 1 with 1 519 votes to Orbett 35 for remaining candidates. Clarence P Lee How ard led Loyd Gray with 44 votes, final tallies show Be' nett narrowly beating Starlin 96 to 87 for New Hooks District 16A six year term. S. E. Horne led N T Reed 120 to 69 for two year term.
The winter course in advanced English on Shakespeare’s comedies at New Mexico Normal University Las Cruces, directed locally by Mike, concludes with 12 graduates including Edward Autrey, Nola Mae Bennett, Dale Dudley, Lonnie Gray Heard, Gertrude Harris, Ruby Isaacs, Lola Smith Monhollion, Neva Nes t Ruby Powers, Mrs. Stovall of Hobbs, Mae Denny of Humble City, Ethel Yadon of New Hobbs, and Mettie Jordan Mack of Lovington. The new class meets next Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the high school to study Shakespeare tragedies in the spring. All adults and high school graduates may enroll.
Hobby PTA marked its anniversary with a commemorative program in the high school gym. A record crowd attended as the school band performed, Suddath spoke, a Spanish play and songs by the Spanish Club were given, Miss Powers spoke, and Mrs. Burke and Mrs. Barron contributed two musical numbers.
Winners in the mispelled word contest held by the Big Theatre were announced last night. The list includes Abe Goldberg, W E Daniels, Mrs H Clark, Ira Page, Carmen, A C Baker, Mrs M M Stubblefield, B F Anders, Frank Sedillo, E P Stubblefield, Lele Harmon, Valtina Brown, F L Watts, Mrs Phil Vorene ree ml Joyce Holden. Each will pass by calling at the Theatre.
Dr. W. A. Sabelman was served at 9 30 last night to appear in Lovington court on February 19 to answer charges of bribery related to a loan from Fred Cobb.
Mrs D Weaver entertains her mother Mrs Ida Phillips of Waxahachie Texas as a guest in an informal social visit.
A campaign to raise funds for the local Boy Scouts was begun this morning. Merchants and individuals will be asked to contribute to advance the troop's growing membership and community interest in the youth organization.
Hobbs Boy Scout Troop members were entertained at a chili supper on Wednesday night. K. B. Walker Ben Witt and Jackson-Horne Grocery extended courtesies to the scouts. Seventy-one scouters attended the feed.
Miss Billie Sudderth, Texas Tech student at Lubbock, visited here with her parents Mr and Mrs T B Sudderth last weekend.
Dr Sam H Stewart and Wayne Belle attend to business in Dallas with Belle handling spring merchandise for a local store. The pair are described as involved in store operations and related commerce during the visit.
Mrs Jim Jones has returned from Lubbock after a several day stay. Her trip included visits with friends and local engagements before returning home.

Alsup held offices improperly voters were allowed to vote only within wards claiming illegal election of April 3 1934 and that terms of Ward 3 trustee W. E. Cunningham were not expired when alleged usurpation occurred. Plaintiffs include L. W. Gay W. P. Clark and others seeking proper clerk appointment.

Toby Allen and his family left Friday to establish a new home in Ada Oklahoma. Allen, associated with Olsen Drilling Company, has been transferred to the Ada field for work assignments.

A George Washington Benefit Tea hosted by the Methodist Church women will be held Friday February 22 at the Harden Hotel. Guests will be received from 3 to 8 p m with hostesses serving each hour. The event supports the church society.

Enrollment figures for local schools released by Supt. W D Stafford show a near fifty percent rise over last year for the first five months of the school year. January 28 total enrollment stands at 1011 across all departments, up from 703. primary and intermediate 626, Junior High 128, Senior High 257, with last year’s figures 421, 94, 186. Attendance also up, from 568 to 835 daily.
A new large producer, Texas Company Ogg No 8, is estimated to yield 12,000 barrels per day. Located in the center of the southwest quarter of section 35 24s 36e, it offsets the Ogg No 1 to extend the Cooper pool area. Bottomed at 3469 feet after a tight lime zone. 3448 feet produced 175 barrels daily post acid treatment.
The Hobbs Girls Independent basketball team defeated the Seminole girls on their home court Saturday night. The score was 89 to 28. A return game was postponed Wednesday night when road conditions prevented the Seminole team from arriving on time.
The Gypsy Night Club will meet next Friday night for a Washington birthday party, inviting members to celebrate with an evening event at the club.
After a six week trial, Rich ard Hauptman was found guilty of murder in the first degree in the Lindbergh baby case. The automatic death sentence was imposed, Hauptman showed little emotion at sentencing, then cried in his cell. The defense said an appeal would be filed immediately.

George Forbes learned Wednesday of his father’s death at his Clovis home. He will likely leave today for Clovis to await the body’s arrival from Newton Kansas, where the death occurred.
