Trustees Say Public Favorable For Municipal Utility

Dr W A Sabelman announced that among 174 local residents interviewed about a municipal utility and sewerage plan, 164 favored the project while 10 expressed dissatisfaction. The sewage option proved least popular among those surveyed.

Victorian Hobbs Muni election results county trustees

The Hobbs Municipal election produced county trustee results across districts. Voters chose J V Harr and C G Ste ed v for trustees in District No 1 with 1 519 votes to Orbett 35 for remaining candidates. Clarence P Lee How ard led Loyd Gray with 44 votes, final tallies show Be' nett narrowly beating Starlin 96 to 87 for New Hooks District 16A six year term. S. E. Horne led N T Reed 120 to 69 for two year term.

Winter English extension class finishes with 12 graduates

The winter course in advanced English on Shakespeare’s comedies at New Mexico Normal University Las Cruces, directed locally by Mike, concludes with 12 graduates including Edward Autrey, Nola Mae Bennett, Dale Dudley, Lonnie Gray Heard, Gertrude Harris, Ruby Isaacs, Lola Smith Monhollion, Neva Nes t Ruby Powers, Mrs. Stovall of Hobbs, Mae Denny of Humble City, Ethel Yadon of New Hobbs, and Mettie Jordan Mack of Lovington. The new class meets next Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the high school to study Shakespeare tragedies in the spring. All adults and high school graduates may enroll.

PTA Anniversary Observed in High School Gym

Hobby PTA marked its anniversary with a commemorative program in the high school gym. A record crowd attended as the school band performed, Suddath spoke, a Spanish play and songs by the Spanish Club were given, Miss Powers spoke, and Mrs. Burke and Mrs. Barron contributed two musical numbers.

Hauptmann Sentenced To Die For Lindbergh Baby Murder

Enrollment figures for local schools released by Supt. W D Stafford show a near fifty percent rise over last year for the first five months of the school year. January 28 total enrollment stands at 1011 across all departments, up from 703. primary and intermediate 626, Junior High 128, Senior High 257, with last year’s figures 421, 94, 186. Attendance also up, from 568 to 835 daily.

12000 Barrel Producer in the Cooper Area

A new large producer, Texas Company Ogg No 8, is estimated to yield 12,000 barrels per day. Located in the center of the southwest quarter of section 35 24s 36e, it offsets the Ogg No 1 to extend the Cooper pool area. Bottomed at 3469 feet after a tight lime zone. 3448 feet produced 175 barrels daily post acid treatment.
