Three Teens Admit Theft At Jordan Dairy
Lemuel Cheek 16 Ted Martin 17 and Cecil Lee 22 were arrested Saturday night at Lovington. They confessed to entering Jordan's Dairy and stealing 45 dollars. Sheriff Sam Cain and Deputy Kerley recovered 29.45 and the trio were held for examination. Cheek claimed sole guilt but Martin and Lee were bound over to district court in 750 dollars bond.

A second man suspected fled, with officers broadcasting for his capture. A handmade punch was left in the safe, and a steel rod fragment was found nearby, leading to the blacksmith shop of Uncle Bob where one suspect allegedly had the rod cut into a punch. No stolen money has been recovered despite search efforts.

In a justice court preliminary examination Tuesday afternoon Fred Johnson was bound over in bond of $1,000 after waiving the exam for assault with intent to maim A. T. Thompson and his wife who operate Westex Courts. He allegedly refused to stop a disturbance, struck Thompson with a rock, and knocked down Mrs. Thompson who was bedridden by injuries. Condemned cattle culled under drought relief plan
Two hundred seventy six head of condemned cattle were killed Saturday and Sunday on three ranches about 45 miles north of Roswell. Ranchers will be paid by the federal government with drought relief funds. More cattle in the area are being slaughtered this week under the program. J. R. Thomas, county agent, leads the effort in Chaves county and farmers wishing to sell to the government should notify him.
