Henderson Sets Hammond to Valparaiso Auto Record

Paul QO Henderson driving W B Watchinsons Stoddard Dayton sped from Hammond to Valparaiso on June 1 in 42 minutes flat. He is an expert driver and was entered in the Vanderbilt cup race, where he ranked with the best. The Hammond Valpo time may stand for a long time, the Valpo Vidette reports.

Record of April and May Automobile Registrations

The secretary of state reports 3 564 automobile registrations for April and May. May accounts for 2 840 registrations, the highest monthly total since the law's enactment. Deputy secretary Frank I. Grubbs estimates an average vehicle value of 1 000 dollars, totaling about 3 564 000 dollars invested. Two clerks spent all their time on registrations during the period.

Town Board Sets Bills and Bids in Monday Session

The town board met in regular session Monday. Minutes were approved. About $680 in salaries and town expenditures were allowed. Bids for steam boilers and plant equipment were requested. Paul Newman offered a bond to become town tapper and was appointed. The street obstruction ordinance was read and laid over for revision. The Wettengel sidewalk petition was also laid over. Discussions covered Lake street profile and Wm. Earle subdivision. Attorney Bozarth argued a long-used driveway could become a public highway. the board cited supporting decisions and maintained its stance.

Miller annexation case heads to hearing on June 18

On June 18 Judge Reiter will hear arguments in the Miller annexation dispute. Gary seeks to absorb the eastern town while most legal voters of Miller remonstrate against the move. Two thirds of voters are required to block the annexation, and the court’s outcome is anticipated.
